Iana Dakova, Coach

Iana Dakova was a professional fencer and a member of the Bulgarian National Team from 1984 to 1991. She regularly competed in World Cups and won multiple National Championship titles in Bulgaria between 1983 and 1990. Iana earned her masters in coaching in 1985 and was assistant coach at the Slavia Fencing Club from 1986 to 1990. Since that time she has coached secondary school students as well as adults, and has served as an international referee. Iana is a recognized world-class referee and member of the Federation International d'Escrime (FIE), where she has refereed the top fencers in the world at World Championships, Pan-American Games, and numerous World Cups. She has also been a member of the U.S. Fencing Officials Commission (FOC), which oversees rule implementation and refereeing in the U.S.A.
